BIOGRAPHY

Robert Hope was born in Portland, Oregon in 1954 where he went to school, worked and lived until he moved to Vancouver, Washington in 2010.  He then relocated to Litchfield Park, Arizona in 2020 where he currently lives and paints.

Hope started painting late in life at the age of 58 but has always enjoyed arts of many kinds since high school where he was an assistant art teacher during his senior year.  At that time, he was mainly interested in ceramics.

When he retired from the fire bureau in 2012, his wife bought him his first easel and canvas.  He had wanted to try painting for years.  He started painting abstracts in an expressionism style and soon moved to painting portraits and characters in a combination of abstract expressionism and realism.

Hope paints whatever or whoever inspires him at the moment.  He uses acrylic paints to make his paintings come to life!

He does not like the phrase “self-taught artist” but without any professional schooling or training, he says “it is what it is”.
